FORECAST IN DETAIL

Clouds:Latest mid-Atlantic infrared satellite shows movement of clouds over past two hours. Refresh page to update. See more maps on our Weather Wall.

We have some more San Francisco-like weather for some of our weekend, as clouds play a few tricks and traipse in from the ocean and back out at times. But other than periodic clouds every now and again, temperatures remain extremely comfortable. And there’s still enough sunshine to warrant sunscreen! Soak up the rays until clouds and showers potentially move in by Tuesday.

Today (Friday): Some clouds may need to burn off in the morning, especially east of town where ocean air may have invaded overnight. As long as the easterly breeze off the ocean gives us a few pauses, we should get the atmosphere mixing-out the clouds—burning them off–under the warm May sun. Sunshine should spread steady and help boost us into the mid-to-upper 60s for high temperatures. Easterly breezes around 10-15 mph don’t want to fully quit, and are actually a bit stronger than Thursday. This is probably still a “Nice Day,” but my confidence is not quite there. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Any clouds that help color the sunset should evaporate until early morning hours. But cloud cover is a lower confidence forecast during this weekend, so I cannot be highly confident. Even though low temperatures drop down into the 40s (40 is possible for the clearest of locations well away from the Beltway), we shouldn’t shiver too badly if winds remain somewhat light out of the northeast. Grab the jacket if out very late, perhaps? Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Saturday): Is looking spectacular with a touch more in the sunshine and warmth categories. High temperatures may get into the upper 60s to around 70. Well south of town may even get into the lower 70s, but we’d have to fully kick the easterly breeze which may “gust” up to 10 mph at times. All in all, a great day for a wine festival down at Montpelier. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Fairly clear and stars should be viewable at times. Just consider that jacket, again, if out late with low temperatures in the 40s—perhaps around 50 downtown. I will stick in a 10% chance of a shower happening just before sunrise or so, but doubt it will materialize. Confidence: Medium

Sunday: Reverse clouds-after-sun is possible today as sunshine reigns until later in the afternoon, for the most part. Even with the timing of the clouds being uncertain, there is only a 10% chance of a shower hampering any of your Cinco de Mayo plans. Better yet, high temperatures around 70 to mid-70s should keep you comfortable. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Sunday night: Clouds could increase just a bit, but I think it should average out as partially cloudy conditions overall. Shower chances remain at or below 10%. Low temperatures don’t dip too much—in the upper 40s to low 50s. Confidence: Medium

Then on Monday we may struggle to get some sunshine at times, but showers (40-50% chance) could roll in with some denser clouds as the day progresses. Timing of these showers may need to be revisited later, so stay tuned. High temperatures could stop in the upper 60s to perhaps 70, but further into the 70s if showers are delayed. Presumably sunshine may have more of a chance to warm us. Confidence: Low-Medium

Tuesday is the day of our penance, of sorts, as clouds may stay strong and keep us wet. Showers have about a 50-60% chance of dampening us. An umbrella might be wise to keep on hand! Highs make the mid-60s to near 70. Confidence: Low
