Today’s not going to rank too high compared to Saturdays of recent past, but with some luck it won’t be a total washout. Waves of showers and storms are possible pretty much all day though, so you’ll definitely want to keep the rain gear handy and an eye out for changeable conditions. After we get through today, there’s quite the cool air mass around the corner. It promises to make us remember it’s not quite summer yet.

Today (Saturday): Showers and storms should be pretty abundant today, but that doesn’t mean we can’t see some extended breaks as well. Morning might feature one before heating gets underway. Once things bubble, waves of showers and embedded storms are possible through much or all of the day. Some storms could be strong to maybe even severe, but that threat looks to be isolated in nature, with better odds for such southeast of the area. Periodic downpours and lightning are likely the main concerns of the day as highs head for the mid-70s to near 80. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Showers should tend to wane around or after sunset as the atmosphere becomes fully worked over. The impacts of the front, still hanging back to the west in the evening, should really be felt between midnight and near sunrise as winds kick up from the northwest. Lower humidity levels eventually help bring a decrease in clouds with lows in the 50s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Sunday): If you aren’t a fan of the taste of summerlike warmth, humidity, and storminess, this is your day. Highs between 65 and 70 most spots should do it, which is pretty cool for mid-May. Sustained winds should approach 15 to 20 mph with higher gusts in the afternoon, so it might feel a bit different than recent days. “Chilly”? At least the sun is strong! Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: We can drop the quotes around chilly as we head into the night. Mostly clear skies, decreasing winds and an anomalously cool air mass combine to send temperatures into the upper 30s in the cold spots north and west, to the mid-40s downtown and places southeast. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Monday is about a ten degree below normal type of day. Fortunately, normal is mid-70s. Winds are lighter than Sunday as high pressure exerts firmer control over low pressure pushing further away. With that high should come mostly sunny skies as well. Afternoon temps? Pretty cool, mainly in the low-to-mid 60s at peak. Confidence: Medium-High

Tuesday may start off frosty in favored spots north and west as lows could dip toward the mid-30s or a little lower — more like low 40s downtown. We are on the rebound though with cold having reached its peak. Mostly sunny skies during the day help lead to highs in the mid-to-upper 60s. Confidence: Medium
