D.C. area forecast: Gradually warmer and less windy to close out weekend

Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the days weather, on a scale of 1 to 10.

It’s plenty nice and normally I’d give a 9, but for Memorial Day weekend I’d prefer pool/beach weather.

Express Forecast

Today: Lots of sun, lingering breeze. Highs: Low-to-mid 70s.

Tonight: Clear and cool. Lows: 40s to near 50.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny and mild. Highs: Mid-to-upper 70s.

I’ve heard plenty of complaining about the weather already this weekend, and yes it’s far from the pool or beach weather many were hoping for, but truly we could do much worse. In fact, it only gets better as the weekend goes on. Today we get a bit warmer, and tomorrow we finally lose the wind, so get out there and enjoy! Don’t worry, the trend toward more summer-like conditions is well underway by the time we head back to work on Tuesday.

Today (Sunday): Still a little gusty today, but it’s more of a refreshing breeze than a nuisance.  At least that’s the way I’m looking at it.  Other than that, what’s not to like? The skies are once again filled with sun and we should squeeze out a couple more degrees of warmth.  Highs should reach the low-to-mid 70s despite breezes from the northwest at 10-20 mph. Confidence: High

Tonight: Another clear and cool overnight as the winds slacken after dark.  Probably not frost-worthy cold, but some outlying areas could bottom out near 40. Closer to and in town, we’ll see lows drop to the mid-40s to near 50 beneath star-filled skies. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Memorial Day): At least we saved the nicest day of the weekend for the actual holiday, right?  It’s still a less-than-ideal day for the beach, but for a BBQ, it doesn’t get much better. We’ll stay with mostly sunny skies and with weak high pressure overhead, no more gusty winds.  Our highs during the day get into the mid, and possibly upper, 70s. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Increasing clouds are possible overnight as winds switch around to come from the south and moisture in the air increases.  But it’s far from what anyone would call humid as overnight lows settle in the 50s. Confidence: High

More summer-like weather returns as everyone heads back to work on Tuesday.  Figures right?  You’ll start to notice a hint of humidity as highs reach the low 80s under partly sunny skies, with a slight chance for an afternoon or evening shower or thunderstorm. Expect mild Tuesday night lows in the low-to-mid 60s. Confidence: Medium-High

The warming trend continues Wednesday.  We’ll see at least partly sunny skies, high aiming for the mid-to-upper 80s, and again a slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm with humidity climbing into the noticeable range. Confidence: Medium
