FORECAST IN DETAIL

Last night delivered a serious regime shift, and we are now saying hi to high pressure-cooled air from Canada for today and tomorrow.  While we’d all prefer this on the weekend instead, still take some time to enjoy the sunshine, cooler weather, and much lower humidity over the next 48 hours.  This pleasant interlude ends by Thursday as another cold front approaches to line up a series of disturbances for showers/storms and higher humidity into the weekend.  But at least no major heat is expected this time.

Today (Tuesday):  High pressure delivers mostly sunny skies, very low humidity, and light winds (5-10 mph) from the north today to generate the best day of the week.  Highs in the mid-to-upper 70s.  Allergy sufferers must beware that the much drier humidity allows pollen to take flight again. And, even though it’s cooler, the June sun is still the strongest of the year- so keep that sunscreen handy if you’re out there very long. Confidence: High

Tonight: Low humidity, light breezes, and mostly clear skies allow temperatures to free fall into the 50s.  The outer suburbs should be closer to 50 while the inner side of the city aims for just under 60.  Either way, it’s natural air conditioning. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Wednesday): More beautiful mostly sunny weather with near seasonal temperatures around 80, still relatively low humidity (dew points in the 50s), and light breezes that start coming from the south and southeast at 5 to 10 mph.  Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Becoming partly cloudy as more moisture creeps into the area.  Those dew points start to lift up a bit more too as our temperatures reach the upper 50s to low 60s.  This is still great weather for meteorological summer.  Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Thursday finds partly sunny morning conditions leading to partly/mostly cloudy afternoon weather with a 30 percent chance of mainly late afternoon into evening showers and thunderstorms.  Highs should range similarly to Wednesday with upper 70s to low 80s, but increased humidity makes it feel warmer and a bit muggier.  Thursday night is also a bit warmer with partly cloudy skies after evening shower/storm risks.  Lows in the mid-to-upper 60s, warmest in the city. Confidence: Medium-High

Friday aims for partly to mostly cloudy conditions with higher dew points (meaning muggier), afternoon temperatures peaking in the low 80s, and a healthier 60 percent risk of showers and thunderstorms, especially toward mid-late afternoon into evening. Some heavy downpours are possible.  Friday night features scattered showers and storms (60 percent likelihood continuing) with lows in the upper 60s to around 70.  There is some risk of enhanced rainfall  from the remnants of a tropical disturbance so stay tuned for updates on that. Confidence: Medium

The weekend sees more of the muggy mess with showers and storms on Saturday into Saturday night as highs again float around 80 degrees and lows Saturday night drop into the 60s to near 70.  I’m getting a bit more optimistic about Sunday though as some guidance suggests we could start to clear out.  For now, let’s stay cautious with partly sunny skies, highs in the lower 80s, and a 30 percent chance of scattered showers/storms.  We hope to know more about whether we can salvage the second half of the weekend in the next day or two. Confidence: Low-Medium
