FORECAST IN DETAIL

After a work week that included plentiful storminess, our break in the action continues today. And what a day it will be! The only weather worry might be making sure you’ve got some sunscreen and water on you if you plan to be out a long time. Even with pleasant air around, that sun is strong. We don’t have to wait too long to reintroduce shower and storm threats though…

Today (Saturday): Mostly sunny skies, a light breeze from the northwest around 5 to 10 mph, and highs ranging from near 80 to the mid-80s. Can’t think of a much better weekend day in June myself. Humidity is slowly on its way up but it should stay on the low side of moderate through the day. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Winds shift more toward the southwest and south which helps bring in some slightly more moisture-filled air. We keep mostly clear skies though. Lows range from near 60 in the outer suburbs to as high as the upper 60s downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Sunday): We start off either partly cloudy or mostly clear, but skies should trend cloudier as the day progresses. There’s no major system for storminess like we saw on Thursday, but the steering flow becomes somewhat similar. So, we might be on the lookout for showers and storms approaching from the west by afternoon or evening, along with a slight risk of some homegrown activity (40% chance combined). Highs reach the mid-80s to near 90 on a southwest breeze. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: There’s a 50% chance of showers or storms, possibly strong, mainly for the first half of the night. Other than that, it’s partly cloudy with lows ranging from the low-to-upper 60s. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Monday continues to be a bit murkier than the clearer times of the weekend, but I think we’ll still get partly cloudy periods at the least. There’s no real major trigger for storms, but with the heat and humidity around, can’t rule out a late day rumble or two (40% chance). Highs reach the mid-80s to near 90. Confidence: Medium

By Tuesday, there are some indications we’ll once again be looking at a strong or potentially severe storm threat during the day and into the evening. There are a few scenarios including a cold front meandering around the region and a stronger low pressure moving by. Before any potential storminess, skies are partly cloudy with highs in the 80s. Confidence: Medium
