A slow-moving front brings scattered opportunities for showers and thunderstorms through Tuesday but it’s certainly no wash-out.  Then, we switch to a tranquil and delightful early summer weather pattern that may last through the weekend.

Today (Monday): Much of the day is partly sunny, moderately humid, and warm.  There’s a 20-40 percent chance of showers and storms, with the highest odds in the southern suburbs in the afternoon.  Highs are in the mid-80s, with a light wind from the southwest at 5-10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Partly to mostly cloudy and warm much of the evening.  We continue to have about a 30 percent chance of showers and storms – best odds in the evening. Light winds from the southwest at around 5 mph. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Tuesday): It’s probably the most unsettled day of the week, but – at this point – doesn’t appear to be an all-day deluge.  Still, there are better than even odds of showers and storms (60 percent chance, most likely in the afternoon), with mostly cloudy skies and highs in the low 80s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Showers and storms remain a decent possibility (50-60 percent chance), with the highest chances in the evening.  Otherwise, it’s mostly cloudy and mild, with lows in the 60s. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

There’s a small (20 percent) chance of a few lingering showers and thundershowers Wednesday, mainly in the morning.  Otherwise, skies become partly sunny, with highs in the low 80s.  Mostly clear, cooler and less humid by Wednesday night, with lows in the mid-50s in the cooler suburbs to the low 60s downtown.  Confidence: Medium

The stretch from Thursday through Sunday looks really good.   High pressure builds over the region and hangs tough. Under mostly sunny skies, highs Thursday and Friday are 80-85 with low humidity.  Humidity may increase into the moderate range over the weekend, with highs mostly in the mid-80s (maybe a few upper 80s by Sunday).  Late Sunday, a cold front may come close enough for a few scattered thundershowers but it’s dry far more often than not.  Overnight lows moderate from the 50s to near 60 Thursday night, to the 60s by Saturday night.   Confidence: Medium
