PM Update: Rain on way out, sunshine to return

Update, 8:55 p.m.: A front pressing southward from the north may bring some showers and storms (40-50 percent chance) through the region over the next few hours. Best odds are north and northwest of the District.

It turned into a wet, rainy day, but we are on the brink of a fabulous stretch of weather, set to start tomorrow. Clouds, however, take their time departing tonight.

Through Tonight: Lingering showers this evening, mainly from the District to the north and northeast. Then skies are mostly cloudy for the balance of the overnight hours with perhaps some partial clearing by dawn. Lows range from the upper 50s in the cooler suburbs to the low 60s downtown.

Tomorrow (Wednesday): There may be some lingering clouds and patchy fog early in the morning, but then skies should become partly to mostly sunny (more clouds south and southeast of the District). You’ll notice the air becoming drier during the course of the day with highs near 80. Winds are from the north at 5-10 mph.

Pollen: Before the rain, trees counts were LOW, grasses LOW-MODERATE, weeds LOW, and mold LOW-MODERATE.

Today’s rain: Reagan National received 0.23 inches, Dulles 0.14 inches, and BWI 0.35 inches.  The heaviest amounts were south and southeast of D.C., where up to 1-3 inches fell in parts of southern Maryland.
