FORECAST IN DETAIL

This is the kind of weather you want for the second longest day of the year! Tomorrow is almost as good. The weekend settles back into more typical summer fare with rising but relatively moderate humidity and lots of sun. The only possible fly in the gazpacho is the possibility of showers drifting closer by Sunday.

Today (Thursday): A few showers may linger up on the Blue Ridge and this could throw off a few clouds to slow our sun basking. However, today looks a lot more likely to give in and let the sunshine loose. Breezes are light from the southeast. Highs are comfortably positioned in the upper 70s to lower 80s with the dew point temperature not likely to break 60. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: The clear evening is ideal with readings in the 70s under starry skies. Breezes quickly go calm. Lows fall to the mid-50s in the outlying suburbs with most of us in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Friday): The sun should be on full display for its nearly 15 hour traverse of the sky on this, the summer solstice. A high sun angle helps to push highs to the low-to-mid 80s. Breezes are barely noticeable and humidity is still quite manageable. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Evening readings are in the mid-to upper 70s making for good strolling. Winds remain calm and humidity moderate. Clear skies prevail. Lows reach the low-to-mid 60s. Confidence: High

A LOOK AHEAD

Saturday is a little warmer and a little more humid but nothing to complain about, especially if you find yourself at a beach or pool! Highs climb to the upper 80s with a stray 90 possible under mainly sunny skies. Evening readings linger in the 80s under clear skies and the breath-taking nearly full “Honey Moon” graces the eastern horizon. Lows bottom out in the mid-to-upper 60s. Confidence: High

The forecast is only slightly more challenging on Sunday with a few showers or thundershowers threatening to pop up (20% chance) thanks to our climbing heat and humidity. With a little luck they should hold off until later in the afternoon and remain relatively spotty in coverage. Highs reach the upper 80s to lower 90s. Confidence: Medium

Monday is nearly as warm and humidity is now approaching the “do not go there” level with plenty of morning sun. This makes the chance of afternoon thundershowers a more likely proposition (40%). Highs reach the upper 80s to lower 90s. Confidence: Medium
