FORECAST IN DETAIL

Hopefully you got out and enjoyed the summer sun yesterday as today features considerably less blue skies.  While much of summer provides fun in the sun, we’ve got to deal with humidity and storm chances too, both of which are featured in the days ahead.  We’re looking at our first true heat wave as we get deeper into the work week, when “hazy, hot and humid” become constants in the forecast as does the threat for pop-up thunderstorms.

Today (Sunday): Skies tend toward partly to mostly cloudy in an increasingly humid air mass.  The clouds probably serve to limit highs to the low-to-mid 80s, though if we get just enough sun then upper 80s are within reach. There’s enough instability out there to warrant a 40% chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms. Winds are from the south at 5-10 mph. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: As summer showers and storms are want to do, coverage and intensity wane after dark, with chances dropping to around 20% by late evening and overnight. It’s a warm and humid night with mostly cloudy skies and lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. Winds remain light from the southwest. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Monday): We have a bit more in the way of sun breaking through on Monday — we’ll call it partly to mostly sunny — leading to daytime highs mainly in the low 90s. While still humid, it’s perhaps not quite as humid as today, but still with a 30% chance of a few afternoon thunderstorms.  Winds continue light from the southwest at 5-10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: We’ll extend that 20% chance of a thunderstorm into the evening just in case. Otherwise, we’re partly to mostly cloudy for the balance of the night, and can’t rule out a bit of fog either. Overnight lows settle in the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

The heat builds a bit more for Tuesday and Wednesday. But even with the moderate to high humidity, highs in the low-to-mid 90s fall short of the more intense heat waves we can see around here. A few afternoon/evening thunderstorms are possible each day with chances about 30%.  Not much relief Tuesday night as it stays quite muggy with lows in the low-to-mid 70s. Confidence: Medium
