The bloomin’, shroomin’ technicolor Dover, Delaware weather radar

The National Weather Service doppler radar in Dover, Delaware put on quite the show this morning, but weather had nothing to do with it.

After coming back online following a period of routine maintenance, multi-color rays shot out from the radar’s center in all directions.

Bridget De Rosa, a forecaster at the National Weather Service office in Wakefield, Va., responsible for the radar, said nothing unusual was going on.

“When certain products come back online, you can get those blooms,” she said.

De Rosa said the display pattern was “an anomaly” and had no further explanation, adding a lot of people noticed it because active weather is expected in the region later today.

Perhaps it was the radar’s way of recognizing Wednesday’s supreme court decision?
