FORECAST IN DETAIL

July’s our time for adding up those 90s. We got one yesterday in D.C., and the next few days will likely oblige as well. If the heat isn’t enough to make it feel like the heart of summer then the high levels of humidity will surely remind. Suggestions for the weekend include the beach, the pool, A/C and plenty of water!

Today (Saturday): We should have another day with lots of sun and no notable risk of rain. We don’t completely “dry out” thanks to the sweat-inducing humidity though. Heat indices may approach 100 in spots during peak heating — take it easy out there! Highs range from near 90 to the mid-90s, probably on the higher end of that range most spots. Winds from the southwest blow around 5 to 10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Skies are mostly to partly clear. Calm and quiet for the most part. A good evening for fireflies. Low temperatures reach the near-70 to mid-70s zone. Southwest breezes continue. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Sunday): There might be a few more clouds around compared to today, but we should generally remain partly to mostly sunny. By mid-to-late afternoon, may want to keep an eye out to the west to see if any storms are headed this way. Odds of rain locally during the day are fairly low though, only about 30%. Highs are rather similar to today, but if I had to lean one way it would be slightly warmer. Near 90 to mid-90s is the range. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: The slight chance of afternoon storms continues into the evening and we may see a period of showers pass overnight. Our mostly stagnant pattern means stagnant temps, so we’re on repeat mode with lows again ranging from near 70 to the mid-70s. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Monday looks to feature more in the way of clouds and probably a higher risk of showers and thunderstorms. It should still be partly sunny before and after any storminess though. Extra cloudiness and a higher chance of showers and storms (40-50% chance) helps keep highs closer to 90 area-wide. Confidence: Medium

The beat rolls on Tuesday. Want to guess at the forecast? Toasty, muggy and a 30% chance of afternoon showers and storms. Keep the water bottle close by when outdoors as highs rise to around 90 or into the low 90s. Confidence: Medium
