Our heat wave is official now, thanks to our third day in a row reaching at least 96 in the city. Highs across the region were largely in the mid-90s, with heat indices reaching near or past 100 at times. There’s no significant change in the story of recent days tonight or tomorrow.
Through Tonight: Skies are partly cloudy during the evening and overnight, though we may see some clearer periods as well. Showers and storms are fairly unlikely, but we could see a few (20% chance) try to encroach from the northwest late. Lows are mainly in the mid-70s to near 80. Can we make it three in a row 80+ at National? If so, it would be a record warm minimum for the date.
Tomorrow (Thursday): It’s another morning of mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies and temperatures quickly becoming uncomfortable. We only head up from there as highs rise to the mid-and-upper 90s. With dew points shooting for the mid-70s, heat indices may approach 105+ in spots. There could be an isolated lat-day storm somewhere!
Sharknado threat spreading: Lest folks on the East Coast think they are safe from potential sharknadoes, SyFy has announced that Sharknado 2 will be along in 2014. This time: New York City. Details of the plot are as yet unknown, but it’s sure to be another smash hit, on social media at least. Capitalizing on this fact, SyFy is calling for suggestions on the name of the movie. If you missed the first go, check out the tweet swarm that occurred with it.
Pollen update: Grass, tree and weed pollen is LOW. Mold spores are MODERATE/HIGH.
