Express Forecast

Today: Partly sunny, humid. 60% chance of showers & storms. Highs: Upper 80s to low 90s.

Tonight: 60% chance of evening showers and storms. Lows: 70s.

Tomorrow: Partly to mostly cloudy, still muggy. 50-60% chance of mainly p.m. showers & storms. Highs: Upper 80s to near 90.

FORECAST IN DETAIL

Relief is here, if you can call it that. The atmosphere throws us a bone and our dog days fetch more tolerable heat in the upper 80s to low 90s. For the foreseeable future, we can “enjoy” less of that boiling feeling. Thank the periodic clouds, showers and storms for their cooling influence, won’t you?

Today (Sunday): Less stifling but we have to deal with a quasi-stationary cold front hanging out close by. That means partly sunny skies and simmering – not boiling – into the upper 80s to low 90s and still with high humidity. Showers and storms seem likely at least for parts of the area, with overall chances around 60%, and the most likely timing from late morning through afternoon. Breezes should remain light and variable. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Shower and storm chances continue around 60% into the evening, but any activity should die off by mid-to-late evening. Skies stay partly to mostly cloudy, with light winds and lows mainly in the 70s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Monday): Despite our nearby cold front starting to die out, the jet stream remains close enough to provide some instability, which combined with periodic sun helps percolate a 50-60% chance of showers and storms. The shower/storm risk is slightly higher during the afternoon than the morning. Highs head for the upper 80s to near 90 and, yes, it’s still humid. Light morning breezes from the northeast breezes may shift to come from the southeast during the afternoon. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Should remain somewhat cloudy and hazy so stars may not be very visible. The shower and storm threat lingers into the evening with a 50% chance, but should again die off mid-to-late evening as the nighttime air tries to cool and stabilize. Temperatures settle toward lows from near 70 to the mid-70s (suburbs to city). Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Tuesday is more of the same with hazy sunshine poking through periodic clouds. A few showers and storms could pop and drench some of us at some point during the day (60% chance). No surprises as far as temperatures, as highs reach the upper 80s to low 90s. The dog days are indeed here, with the weather stuck on repeat!. A chance of showers and storms may hang on into the evening with Tuesday night lows near 70 to the mid-70s. Confidence: Medium

Wednesday shapes up as partly sunny with a 40-50% chance of showers and storms as a cold front starts to approach. We continue hazy, hot and humid as highs top out in the upper 80s to around 90. Confidence: Low-Medium
