Some clouds snuck into the region this afternoon, but we held onto to wonderfully low humidity levels and comfortable temperatures (low 80s). Although the humidity ticks up Wednesday, it’s far from the heights of a couple weeks ago. Showers, if any, probably wait until the late afternoon or evening hours.

Through Tonight: Partly to mostly cloudy skies and not as “cool” as the previous two nights. Still, most of us will take it, with lows from the low 60s in the cooler suburbs to the upper 60s downtown. Winds are light.

Tomorrow (Wednesday): The modestly increasing humidity levels (dew points into the low 60s) arise from a light breeze from the south (5 to 10 mph). We have partly to mostly cloudy skies with a 20 percent chance of showers by late afternoon. Highs reach the low-to-mid 80s.

Pollen: Trees, grass, and weed counts are LOW. Mold spores are MODERATE-HIGH.

Long-range tornado forecasting? Bob Henson of the National Center for Atmospheric Research has a great article about progress in predicting the potential for tornado outbreaks weeks to even months in advance. Excerpt: “There are indications that climate models such as the CFS can sometimes detect the large-scale circulation trends conducive to severe weather weeks or even months out. Researchers are now working to quantify just how skillful these projections are.” Read the entire piece: Long range tornado prediction: Is it feasible?
