FORECAST IN DETAIL

We can’t complain much in our upcoming streak of warm, summery weather because it should remain classifiable as comfortable for much of the time ahead. Even gardeners get a smattering of rain chances, between those sunny days which outdoorsy folks will treasure. Sunday could be the highlight of the group!

Today (Friday): That sun is gonna shine, and warm us up pretty darn good. Afternoon temperatures should top out in the mid-to-upper 80s. Light 5-10 mph breezes have westerly components overall, but could oscillate a bit from the southwest before ending up more northwesterly by the end of the day. That breeze helps keep warmer temperatures from feeling too swampy. Small note: we have an outside (5-15%) chance of a stray thundershower by late afternoon. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: After any of the few isolated showers or storms die down (and quickly), the evening looks pretty great. By the early morning hours, clouds may slowly increase and help keep lows in the upper 60s outside the Beltway, to low 70s downtown. Not to mention a light 5-10 mph breeze out of the west and southwest helping prevent temperatures from cooling too much. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Saturday): There may be very few breaks in the clouds, which now appear more numerous than we may have earlier expected. As any morning sun disappears, mostly-to-fully cloudy conditions are possible. Yet, we still warm into the mid-to-upper 80s again. Thanks, southwesterly breeze at 5-10 mph! Increasing chances (15% early morning increasing to 45% by late afternoon) of showers may not warrant alarm, but the earlier you can get ahead of plans the better. We have an  system approaching out of the Midwest. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: It could be wet at times, with showers and/or thunderstorms (45%-55 chance) around, so consider that umbrella until we fine-tune the forecast. Low temperatures could end up just a bit cooler, in the mid-60s to around 70 (downtown). Confidence: Medium

Sunday: Bring on full sunshine! The day lives up to its name, and so forth! Stay tuned, this looks like a Nice Day stamp kind of day. Light northwesterly breezes from time to time really should keep that humidity in check with temperatures in the 80-85 range. Fingers crossed! Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Sunday night: Skies may actually remain clear and assist in allowing the daytime warmth to escape the Earth’s surface more readily. Thus, low temperatures could fall to the upper 50s in the chilliest areas, with low-to-mid 60s likely for everyone else. Confidence: Medium

Monday’s weather could be another winner. We remain in an unusually refreshing August air mass, whereby it is warm again with highs in the low-to-mid 80s, but quite comfortable for the dog days. A few clouds, or even a very isolated shower, could move in very late in the day. Confidence: Medium

Tuesday may be a bit more unsettled, but don’t write it off completely. Sunshine could mix with periodic threats from showers or thunderstorms (35-45% chance). High temperatures in the low-to-mid 80s should be achievable, with warmer readings in that range more likely if sunshine prevails. Confidence: Low-Medium
