FORECAST IN DETAIL

I guess this is our reward after the last few summers. The few heat waves haven’t been too intense. Plus we’ve been treated to several bouts of below-normal temperatures with low humidity – the kind of weather we expect in spring or early fall more so than summer. We get to enjoy some more of it today and tomorrow thanks to a friendly visit from Canadian high pressure. By midweek, though, that high heads for a beach vacation, allowing back some humidity and shower chances as well.

Today (Sunday): Can’t rule out lingering early-morning clouds and a shower. But skies quickly turn mostly sunny as winds from the northwest around 15 mph, gusting near 25 mph, usher in drier air.  Expect a beautiful afternoon with highs in the low-to-mid 80s and dew points falling into the very comfortable low 50s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Another night to sleep with the windows open! High pressure approaching from the west keeps our skies mostly clear and helps calm the winds too. Temperatures cool off nicely after dark, with overnight lows down to the upper 50s in the suburbs and low-to-mid-60s downtown. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Monday): Monday looks truly marvelous as high pressure parks right overhead. Not that nasty Bermuda High, either. This one comes from Canada and brings friends in the form of mostly sunny skies (perhaps increasing clouds toward evening), low humidity, light winds, and much of the day spent in the 70s with highs near 80 to the low 80s. August what? Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Skies turn partly to mostly cloudy as light winds from the south start to moisten the air again. Lows remain fairly comfortable, ranging through the 60s but with a 30% chance of showers after midnight or so. Confidence: High

A LOOK AHEAD

That heavenly area of high pressure heads offshore by Tuesday and Wednesday, giving way to rising humidity and a 40-50% of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Daytime highs reach near 80 to the mid-80s, falling to the mid-60s to near 70 for Tuesday night lows. Confidence: Low-Medium
