D.C. area forecast: Feeling like summer, for a change

Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the days weather, on a scale of 1 to 10.

Continued warm and more humid than yesterday, but I’m OK with summer feeling a bit like it should.

Express Forecast

Today: Partly sunny, more humid. Isolated p.m. storm? Highs: Upper 80s.

Tonight: 30% chance of shower/t’shower. Lows: Upper 60s to low 70s.

Tomorrow: Partly sunny. 30% chance of shower/storm. Highs: Upper 80s to near 90.

Many have welcomed this summer’s lack of sustained heat and humidity with open arms. While I’m no fan of humidity, personally I could use a bit more warmth in my summer. For those who feel the same, we have a few warmer days to enjoy with the potential for a passing shower or thunderstorm along the way. Then we’ll cool down just a bit for what looks like a rather delightful weekend.

Today (Wednesday): It’s nothing we can’t handle for August. But humidity does make itself more noticeable today – helped into the moderate to high range by a breeze from the south near 10 mph – as highs make their way toward the upper 80s for the second straight day. After some areas of early-morning fog, partly sunny skies may provide enough energy for a 20% chance of an afternoon thunderstorm. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Skies turn partly to mostly cloudy and temperatures stay on the muggy side, with lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. An upper-level disturbance could squeeze out a passing shower or thundershower (30% chance). Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Thursday): Highs head for familiar territory as far as this week goes, into the upper 80s to near 90 again under partly sunny skies. But a drier breeze from the west/southwest near 10 mph should lower humidity a bit as we go through the day.  Rain chances look pretty much unchanged, with a 30% chance of seeing a passing shower or thunderstorm. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: An approaching cold front keeps shower/storm chances alive but only in the 20-30% range. Otherwise, we’re partly cloudy and not as muggy as tonight, with lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Medium

With the cold front passing by, we hang on to a 20-30% chance of a shower or thunderstorm on Friday. Humidity should be dropping nicely by afternoon as highs reach the mid-to-upper 80s under partly to mostly sunny skies. Evening conditions should be super comfortable as temperatures drop into the 70s. Confidence: Medium

The weekend looks fantastic thanks to high pressure firmly in control. Partly to mostly sunny skies, low humidity, and highs in the mid-80s make for an awesome August weekend. Though it’s kind of cool for the pool in the mornings as temperatures rebound from overnight lows in the upper 50s to mid-60s. Confidence: Medium-High
