FORECAST IN DETAIL

If some was good, more is better, and more is on the way to close out the weekend.  Another dose of sunshine and comfortably mild temperatures with low humidity is on tap for the area today, so get out there and enjoy it.  We’ll start to head back into summer as we get into the work week, and with the return of warmer temperatures and higher humidity we also see chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms by midweek.

Today (Sunday): High pressure remains in control, providing another spectacular day to close out the weekend. Only a few fleeting fair-weather clouds move through the sky as humidity dips even a tad lower than yesterday. With highs reaching the low 80s, there’s not much to find fault with today.  Winds are from the south-southeast at 5-10 mph. Confidence: High

Tonight: The late-summer bliss continues, with most of the night spent under starry skies with light winds. A few clouds may begin to swirl by toward morning as lows dip to the comfortable upper 50s to low 60s. The breeze overnight is negligible, but typically from a southwesterly direction. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Monday): Another nice day for late August, but with a few subtle changes.  For one, a few more clouds float by during the day, though still we should be partly to mostly sunny. Meanwhile, temperatures climb a bit higher, maxing out in the mid-to-upper 80s with winds near 10 mph from the southwest. The humidity may inch upward as well, but it’s still in the low or low-to-moderate range. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: A cold front to our north, stretching from New England back through the Great Lakes, may be enough to spread some cloud cover our way overnight.  We’ll call it partly to mostly cloudy, and must mention a 20-30% chance of a few showers overnight or toward dawn. Otherwise, we’re looking at lows in the mid-60s to low 70s as humidity levels creep higher. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Summer surges back again on Tuesday as high pressure settles across the Southeast and pumps warmer and more humid air our way.  A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible (30% chance) as highs head for near 90 to the low 90s under partly to mostly sunny skies. Skies turn mostly cloudy Tuesday night with a 30% chance of a shower or thunderstorm and lows near 70 to the low 70s. Confidence: Medium

The warmth remains and showers and thunderstorms are more likely (50% chance) on Wednesday as a cold front sags southward toward or into our area. We should still manage partly sunny skies, which might be just enough sun to make any late-day storms on the strong side. Highs should reach the mid-to-upper 80s, and with plenty of humidity in the air. Confidence: Low-Medium
