FORECAST IN DETAIL

Temperature Map

Temperatures: Latest D.C. area temperature map. See interactive map on our Weather Wall.

While the steamy Labor Day weekend is behind us, we don’t see any rapid acceleration into autumn just yet.  A series of cooler fronts are working in our direction, but their main accomplishment will be to drop humidity levels rather than cool us down dramatically.

High temperatures still frequently make their way into the warm 80s.  At least we don’t see any 90s for the balance of this week into the weekend.  And the weekend is looking pretty good right now with only a slight risk of rain late on Sunday at this point.

Today (Tuesday):  High pressure is arriving today to decrease humidity (dew points and increase our comfort levels.  Skies should be partly to mostly sunny.  Highs should still manage the middle to upper 80s as light winds come from the northwest at 5 to 10 mph.  Confidence: High

Tonight:  A few clouds are around, but a much more pleasant evening is in store as temperatures dive down into the mid-to-upper 50s in the outer suburbs to the lower 60s in the city with light breezes from the northwest.  Confidence: High

nice day
Tomorrow (Wednesday):  A Nice Day dominates as high temperatures top out in the low-to-mid 80s under bright sunny skies meshed with low humidity levels.  Light breezes are mainly from the northwest again.  Confidence: High

Tomorrow night:  Mostly clear, cool, and comfortable with lows again in the middle to upper 50s in the suburbs to the low 60s in the city.  Confidence: High

A LOOK AHEAD

Thursday may pick up a few clouds in advance of a dry secondary cool front. It’s slightly warmer than Wednesday, but highs should still only manage to reach into the warm middle 80s. Humidity is relatively low.  Thursday night aims for some partly cloudy skies with lows around 60. Confidence: Medium-High

Friday should be the coolest day of this week and a probably Nice Day qualifier with highs in the upper 70s to around 80, low humidity, and mostly sunny skies. The only downside is that it might be a bit breezier as the cooler air rushes into the area.  Friday night is expected to be mostly clear with lows in the 50s to around 60.  Confidence: Medium-High

The weekend looks mostly nice from this early vantage point with highs in the low-to-middle 80s and lows around 60.  We may see some increase in clouds and just slightly higher humidity by Sunday along with a slight chance of an afternoon/evening shower or thunderstorm.  For the most part, this coming weekend looks a lot more comfortable than the recent holiday heat and humidity. Confidence: Medium
