D.C. area forecast: Mostly nice weather in our near future

Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the days weather, on a scale of 1 to 10.

Not far from perfection, but could feel a little warm under the bright afternoon sun. 9.5?

Express Forecast

Today: Sunny and warmer. Highs: Upper 70s to near 80.

Tonight: Partly cloudy. Lows: Mid-50s to low 60s.

Tomorrow: Partly to mostly cloudy. A brief shower? Mid-70s.

Another spectacular early-fall day is in store for the region as an area of high pressure keeps us in the clear. We’ll warm up a few degrees today from yesterday with a ton of sun, but a cold front brings increased clouds tomorrow (perhaps a shower, too) and a reinforcing shot of cool air by tomorrow night. Come midweek, we’re right back to sunny, dry and pleasant 70s, before the 80s return heading toward the weekend.

Today (Sunday): After a cool start, we’re headed to a warmer and absolutely beautiful day. Plenty of sun and a light wind from the south-southwest warm us quickly through the 50s and 60s this morning, to afternoon highs in the upper 70s to near 80. Humidity levels remain low, and there’s just enough of a breeze from the south-southwest (5-10 mph) to stay refreshed. Be sure to get out and enjoy, at least while you’re not watching the games. Confidence: High

Tonight: Skies turn partly cloudy as a weak front approaches, and that helps keep temperatures up from last night. Lows are generally in the mid-50s to low 60s, and we’ll have to watch for a spotty shower or two by first light.  Winds continue light from the south-southwest. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Monday): That cold front moves through during the midday tomorrow. Humidity remains on the low side, but the front may still muster a brief shower or two (30% chance) at some point during the day. Skies are partly to mostly cloudy as highs reach the mid-70s with winds near 10 mph from the northwest. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: The passage of the cold front brings a reinforcing shot of cool, dry Canadian air to the region. Skies clear during the evening and the overnight chill returns, as lows range from the upper 40s in the coolest north and west suburbs, to the low-to-mid 50s downtown. Confidence: High

Looking ahead to Tuesday and Wednesday, high pressure regains firm control. We’ll enjoy a couple more days of sunny and dry weather with afternoon highs hitting the mid-to-upper 70s, before warmer air moves in for the second half of the week. Tuesday night features quickly cooling conditions with skies full of stars and lows mainly in the upper 40s to low 50s. Confidence: Medium-High
