The tranquil and what many consider terrific weather pattern persists this week, with lots of sunny, pleasant days with highs in the 70s.  Today’s an anomaly with more clouds than sun and a possible batch of showers.  Tuesday through Friday is predominantly sunny with slowly rising temperatures.  We may see a period of showers and storms next weekend, but the balance of it should be dry.

Today (Monday): A weak cold front slides through the area, with a possible (30 percent chance) bout of showers some time in the late morning or early afternoon hours.  The better (40 percent) chance of rain is north and northwest of the District. The front produces considerable cloudiness, but some areas, especially west of I-95, may see some clearing during the afternoon.  High temps are held down in the low-mid 70s. Winds are from the northwest at 5-10 mph. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Clear and cool behind the front.  Lows drop from the upper 40s in the cooler suburbs to the mid-50s down.  Winds are light, from the north at 5-10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

nice dayTomorrow (Tuesday): High pressure builds in from the north delivering brilliant sunshine (with just a few clouds) and refreshingly cool temperatures. Highs range from the upper 60s to low 70s with a breeze from the north around 10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Clear and crisp. Lows range from the low-to-mid 40s in the cooler suburbs to the low-to-mid 50s downtown.  Light winds. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Wednesday through Friday is a fine trio of days with a slow warming trend.  Each day is partly to mostly sunny, with mostly clear nights.  Highs are in the low-to-mid 70s Wednesday, mid-to-upper 70s Thursday, to low 80s Friday, as winds come in from the south.  Thursday’s mornings lows are in the upper 40s and 50s, moderating to the mid-50s to low 60s (suburbs to city) Friday. The only slight (20 percent) chance of showers and storms comes late Friday, but mainly well west of the District. Confidence: Medium

The weathermaker over the weekend is a cold front, probably moving through the area between late in the day Saturday to midday Sunday.  It’s that time interval when there’s a chance of showers and storms.  Aside from that, it’s partly sunny and warm Saturday, with highs in the low 80s.  On Sunday, after any morning showers, it’s slightly cooler with morning lows near 60 and afternoon highs in the 70s. Confidence: Low-Medium
