PM Update: Winning weather streak continues; Windy West Coast

Temperature Map

Temperatures: Latest D.C. area temperature map. See interactive map on our Weather Wall.

Other than some thicker high clouds over the area this afternoon, today was about as perfect as one could ask for. Highs in the mid-70s were accompanied by light to nonexistent winds, a trend set to roll on. It has been almost surreally nice, and it looks to stay that way.

Through Tonight: A delightful evening, with temperatures into the 60s around and after sunset. Once we kick this patch of high clouds, we’re under partly clear skies through the night, with only an occasional light wind. Lows range from the upper 40s in the outlying ‘burbs to as high as the upper 50s downtown.

Tomorrow (Thursday): As has been the recent story, not much change from today. A cool morning leads to a glorious afternoon. Partly cloudy to mostly clear skies are accompanied by highs rising mainly to the mid-70s, maybe some upper 70s here and there if it really performs. Winds are light and variable.

Wind season: Folks in California are preparing for the season’s first big wind event starting today and lasting through the end of the workweek. A storm system passing through the region is expected to deliver north and west winds in the short term, which will later turn to the northeast and east as the week closes. Red Flag warnings indicating high fire danger are up for the San Francisco area tonight through Friday, and wind concerns extend to San Diego and Las Vegas.

Pollen update: Mold spores are low/moderate. Tree, grass and weed pollens are all low.
