FORECAST IN DETAIL

Not the nicest start to our Wednesday with morning clouds and possibly some showers or sprinkles too. We make up for it, though, with a decent afternoon and a mild Halloween day. Showers threaten again Halloween night, but odds are most of us stay mostly dry during the all-important trick-or-treat hours. The best chance of rain arrives with a cold front late Thursday night into Friday. Then we’re back to cooler but decent weather through the weekend.

Today (Wednesday): A warm front intruding into the area from the west is the culprit for mostly cloudy morning skies and a 40% chance of morning showers or sprinkles. Skies should turn partly sunny during the afternoon, helping to bump afternoon highs into the mid-60s. Winds are light, around 5-10 mph from the south. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: An uneventful but fairly pleasant evening in the weather department, as temperatures settle back toward overnight lows in the upper 40s to mid-50s (suburbs to city) under partly cloudy skies. Winds should be light or calm. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Halloween): We do start with a 20% chance of a passing early-to-mid morning shower or sprinkle, and skies may stay partly to mostly cloudy through the day. But that shouldn’t stop temperatures from rising nicely on breezes near 10 mph from the south. We’re talking afternoon highs at least to near 70, and possibly in the low-to-mid 70s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night (Trick or Treat!): Can’t rule out a few showers trying to sneak in during the evening (20-30% chance). But they’d probably be light if they do. And evening temperatures in the 60s could hardly be nicer. So for now I’d expect the weather to hold for trick or treating or anything else outdoors, but check back for updates just in case. Shower chances increase to 60-70% after midnight as a cold front closes in from the west. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Showers, even a bit of thunder and/or gusty winds, remain a threat (60-70% chance) through a mostly cloudy Friday morning, before rain chances diminish toward lunchtime. Cooler air is slow to arrive, which means afternoon highs probably reach near 70 to the low 70s under partial clearing. Friday night brings partly to mostly clear skies and lows mainly in the upper 40s to low 50s. Confidence: Low-Medium

The weekend shapes up as cooler, especially Sunday, but not bad overall. Saturday skies are partly sunny with highs in the mid-to-upper 60s, and maybe an isolated shower as some upper-level energy comes through. Still that chance of an isolated shower Saturday night as lows drop to the 40s. Then on Sunday, we may see even more in the way of sun with partly to mostly sunny skies, but persistent breezes from the northwest limit highs to the much cooler mid-to-upper 50s. Confidence: Medium
