A weak disturbance scooting through the region may generate some snow showers and flurries, especially west and north of the city this afternoon. For the most part, they won’t stick, but they’re a nice mood-setter for the holiday. We rapidly clear out by tonight, with cold weather through Christmas Day.

Through Tonight: There’s a decent chance of snow showers and flurries in Loudoun (50 percent) and, especially, Frederick County (60 percent) with progressively lower chances to the south and east this afternoon. Heavier snow showers could briefly whiten the grass, but temperatures above freezing preclude roadway sticking and travel concerns. Skies begin to clear around sunset, with windy and cold conditions. Lows range from the upper teens in the colder suburbs to the low-to-mid 20s downtown. Winds from the northwest at 15-20 mph, with higher gusts make it feel like the single digits and teens. Bundle up if heading out for Christmas Eve dinner!

Tomorrow (Christmas): Sunny, and cold – fitting for Christmas! Highs range from 33-38 (northwest to southeast). On the plus side, winds diminish – mostly from the west and northwest around 5-10 mph, taking the edge off the chill a bit.
