Where exactly did Washington, D.C.’s cold air come from?

NOAA’s Air Resources Laboratory has developed a model that shows backward trajectories, which allow you to trace the path traveled by the air now over the Washington, D.C. area. Such a model can be run either forward or backward in time, helping meteorologists to track where an air mass originated, or predict the movement of smoke or pollutants.
