Despite not checking in with each other first, we both managed to visit the National Mall after the snow on Monday. It was only after leaving that we figured out we were both down there at the same time and missed each other by minutes at several locations.

We both were fascinated by the snowkiters who sailed across the National Mall near the Washington Monument with kites and snowboards.  The snowkites, which resemble small parachutes, would sometimes catch a strong gust of wind and launch their riders up to six feet into the air.   Often, the riders landed gracefully but a few times they took a tumble.  It looked like a lot of fun!

We both finished our day with a photo shoot of the National Mall and Capitol after dusk.  It’s a classic Washington scene.

Will this be our last snow shoot of the season?  There have been a lot of winter storms this season to photograph but cherry blossoms are about a month away.  Maybe this the year we can shoot cherry blossoms in the snow again?  It’s been that kind of winter.  Only time will tell…
