Amazing visuals of thunderstorms in central U.S. Thursday

Violent thunderstorms erupted from Texas to Kentucky Thursday, producing damaging winds, large hail, and some tornadoes.

Several tornadoes struck Missouri according to CNN, including one near St. Louis.  Tornadic storms – along with softball-sized hail –  also rocked Denton County, Texas, which is north of Dallas.

There were scattered reports of damage from the storms, but not fatalities.

On anniversary of 1974 Super Outbreak

The outbreak occurred on the 40-year anniversary of the 1974 “super outbreak” that produced 148 tornadoes in 18 hours and killed  330 people.  Here’s some good reading material if you’d like to learn more:
