Gardeners and perhaps allergy suffers may not mind shower chances on the increase for a time this afternoon and evening, right? I can offer those with outdoor plans most of Saturday and all of Sunday as compensation. We have a warm, sunny streak to enjoy before it’s broken by Tuesday’s offering of showers and clouds.

Today (Friday): We have some gradually increasing clouds to deal with as a cold front (or, its leftovers) stalls over our area. Showers should hold off until the afternoon but chances for a quick shower increase from 20% during the midday hours to 50% by the evening commute home. Far northwest suburbs may see showers the earliest (12-3 p.m.) with moisture eventually easing into the metro region and points east during early evening (4-7 p.m.). We even have a small chance of a thunderstorm, so don’t be rattled by any rumbles you hear. Southwest winds around 10 mph should warm most of the region into the near 70 to mid-70s range. Some hints we could even go higher than that, but hard to be confident with increasing clouds. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Shower chances in the evening, perhaps till about midnight, are around 60%. They should be of the off-and-on variety, so you may only want to grab a small umbrella. But take cover in the slight chance you see some lightning or hear thunder. Still, even if you see a downpour, no flooding appears likely with rainfall amounts around 0.25” or less most spots. Gardeners, enjoy. Temperatures probably stall their overnight decent and hover in the low-to-mid 50s after midnight, though light northerly breezes could add a slight “chill.” Confidence: Medium-High

nice dayTomorrow (Saturday): Clouds should clear into mostly sunny skies by midday, with a fantastic afternoon in store. Light southeast breezes around 5 mph compliment well the pleasant afternoon high temperatures in the near 70 to mid-70s range. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: This one looks somewhat clear with a few clouds, but you should still enjoy some of the overhead stars. Lows in the mid-to-upper 50s appear possible. Get ready to sweat! Light southeast breezes could be refreshing. Confidence: Medium-High

Sunday: A day that deserves some praise for attempted perfection and giving us worry-free weather. Sunny skies and high temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s (mainly south of town?) appear possible. Get outdoors as much as you can. That’s an order! Confidence: High

A LOOK AHEAD

Sunday night: Mid-to-upper 50s are possible outside the Beltway, but clouds may move in and thus temperatures may stay a bit warmer. Downtown could hover around 60, perhaps even mid-60s if clouds blanket the city before midnight. Confidence: Medium

Increasing clouds look probable on Monday with a 20% chance of a shower by dinner time. Still, even limited sunshine will help us warm nicely, with high temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s possible (mainly south of town). If southerly breezes cease and also clouds end up coming in full force before mid-afternoon, we may be held in the low-to-mid 70s. Confidence: Low-Medium

Tuesday’s showers may wet most of our region (60-70% you see some drops), and associated cloud cover keeps us from getting much above the low-to-mid 60s. Still, not a bad springtime day and any rain could help provide some allergy relief! Confidence: Low-Medium
