FORECAST IN DETAIL

We’re treated to pleasant weather conditions over the next couple of days with intervals of clouds and sun along with a  shower chance late Wednesday – nothing major.  We await a warm front lifting north of our area Thursday morning setting up a surge of summer-like warmth for the end of the week.  Highs in the mid-to-upper 80s for Thursday and Friday would mark our warmest spell so far this year, but they pull back over the weekend. At that time, we are confronted with a weak cool front and periods of showers and maybe thunderstorms in our changeable weather pattern.

Today (Tuesday): A weak disturbance sparks some mostly light showers early this morning up until about 7 or 8 a.m. with most activity on the south side of the city.  Otherwise, morning clouds make way for midday to afternoon partly sunny skies as temperatures edge up a bit more than yesterday toward the upper 60s and low 7os range.  Light winds from the west around 5 mph by the afternoon. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Just a few clouds around overnight with lows dropping down into the cool middle 40s in the outer suburbs to the lower 50s in the city.  It’s still that time of year when low temperatures require a light jacket.  Very light breezes from the east and southeast. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Wednesday): A pesky, weak frontal system still snakes across the area, offering more cloud cover and a chance of scattered light showers yet again – mainly late in the day.  Highs are a bit cooler with middle to upper 60s, but some spots may touch 70 again.  Winds blow from the southeast at a light 5 to 10 mph.  Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Mostly cloudy with scattered light showers around again as lows only drop into the 50s.   Breezes are light, but they start coming from the warmer southwest direction toward dawn.  Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Thursday begins our ascent into anomalously warm temperatures with partly sunny skies and winds from the southwest pushing our high temperatures up to the low to middle 80s range for the first time since that brief pop about a month ago.  Thursday night is partly cloudy with lows in the warmer upper 50s to low 60s. Confidence: Medium-High

Friday is favored to be the warmest day of the forecast period with middle to upper 80s, but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone touches their first 90 of the season.  With dew points in the upper 50s to low 60s, we are not expecting summer humidity levels at least.  Partly to mostly sunny skies provide an early summer feel though.  A chance of a few showers Friday night with lows only cooling down to the lower 60s under partly cloudy sky conditions.  Confidence: Medium-High

So, the weekend looks a bit complicated as a weak cool front tries to work through.  The safest thing we can say is that temperatures should remain warmer than normal in the upper 70s to low 80s range, but sky conditions appear to be variable on both Saturday and Sunday with chances of showers and thunderstorms.  The latest timing seems to favor Saturday night and Sunday morning for the best chance of precipitation, but this could continue to wiggle a bit until we get closer.  Lows Saturday night should reach down to the upper 50s or low 60s.  Confidence: Medium
