Rainbow of the year? Phenomenal photo from Oklahoma

Behold one of the most dramatic rainbow photographs I’ve seen in a long while. Mark Fryklund, a photojournalist and storm chaser with KOCO TV in Oklahoma City, Okla, posted this to Twitter yesterday:

It captures the rainbow’s entire semicircle – fronted by an ominous rain shaft and backed by a second, though subtle, arc. It’s the serendipitous marriage of mother nature’s serene and scary.

Now seems like a good time to also share this exquisite double rainbow photo from Sykesville, Maryland, taken last Saturday (May 3) at 6:50 p.m. by Steven McVeigh.

Can’t ever get enough rainbows
