Following this morning’s deluge, the weather underwent a stunning transformation. This afternoon, suddenly, was gorgeous with a mix of clouds and sun, a gentle breeze, and temperatures stabilized around a very comfortable 70 degrees. The weather this weekend is equally blissful. Can you tell I’m excited?

Through Tonight: Partly cloudy this evening/overnight and compared to the past few, even a little brisk. Lows range from the mid-40s in our cooler suburbs to the low 50s downtown. Light winds from the northwest around 5-10 mph.

Saturday and Sunday: High pressure leads the way giving us sunshine and very pleasant weather – even if several degrees cooler than normal. Highs both days are around 70 under partly to mostly sunny skies. Both mornings are on the brisk side – in the 40s in many areas – so a light jacket is advisable for those out and about on the early. Winds are generally light from the west and northwest.

The image was taken just as the rain had exited the region at 11:45 a.m.  The dark brown shades in western Virginia indicate the very dry air we benefited from this afternoon.

Weather Channel’s Greg Forbes to make on-air return after cancer surgery: Forbes’, The Weather Channel’s severe weather expert, is seemingly doing well after undergoing surgery for colon cancer. From The Weather Channel’s president, Dave Clark:

I am pleased to let you know that Dr. Forbes has been cleared by his doctors to return to work next week. As some of you know, he’s already been contributing severe weather forecasts from home and was on-air via phone yesterday. Dr. Forbes will be in and out of the office the next several months for ongoing treatment and follow-ups, but we’ll be very happy to have him back in the office when he is up to it. Based on the outpouring of support on social media, I know his fans will feel the same. On behalf of Dr. Forbes, I want to thank everyone for their well wishes. Please join me in welcoming him back.
