D.C. area forecast: Breezy 70s with slight shower threat today, before warmer, calmer holiday weekend

Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 1 to 10.

7
Less muggy 70s(!) blow in on northwest winds today. (Sorry allergy sufferers). PM rain risk not too high, either.

Express Forecast

Today: Windy, but mainly sunny until p.m. shower chance. Highs: Mid-to-upper 70s.

Tonight: A few clouds, slightly breezy. Lows: 50s to near 60.

Tomorrow: More sun than clouds. Breezy. Highs: Mid-to-upper 70s.

Sunday: Sunny. Highs: Around 80 to mid-80s.

FORECAST IN DETAIL

If you can brave today’s breeze, these more comfortable 70s should be enjoyable through tomorrow. Showers chances, while extant, shouldn’t really be a major worry to plan around. By the time we get to Sunday and Memorial Day, shower chances dive toward zero and temperatures rise into the 80s. Humidity and 90+ could be back by Tuesday.

Today (Friday): Decently sunny but by mid-afternoon we could see clouds gather–even a chance of a shower or brief thundershower (15-25% chance, highest north). Noticeable winds from the northwest at 10-20 mph could gust to around 25 mph a few times. At least there is no wind chill factor with high temperatures in the mid-to-upper 70s. Bring in that cooler, drier (less muggy!) air, please. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: We currently think skies should clear (enough) in time to view the meteor shower that’s currently slated to peak from about 2-4 a.m. Scattered clouds shouldn’t interfere too much. You may need a jacket if out watching, since predawn low temperatures could dip into the lower 50s in the suburbs (upper 50s to near downtown). Also I can’t rule out northwesterly breezes continuing to blow between 5-15 mph.. Confidence: Medium-High

nice dayTomorrow (Saturday): I think still qualifies as a Nice Day, despite a 10% chance of an afternoon shower or quick thundershower. Ok. And maybe some northerly wind at 10-20 mph. Don’t worry too much; rather, enjoy low humidity, more sun than clouds, and high temperatures in the mid-to-upper 70s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: A few showers are possible even after dinner (5-10% chance) with a moderate level of clouds around. These clouds could help keep low temperatures from dropping but to the mid-50s to low 60s (downtown). Confidence: Medium

Sunday: Clear cut champion of the weekend with mostly clear skies and pleasant temperatures around 80 to a few mid-80s south of town. Breezes and humidity should stay under control too. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Sunday night: Partly cloudy conditions and fairly comfortable readings give us the chance to enjoy outdoor activities even after dark. Low temperatures should go no lower than upper 50s suburbs to lower 60s downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

Monday’s Memorial Day weather looks just fine! Please enjoy sunny skies (with sunscreen) that should only experience a few clouds by afternoon. Rain chances should stay minimal. I don’t think we’ll feel too uncomfortable with temperatures ranging in the 81-88 degree range, but admittedly the humidity is probably moderate. Confidence: Medium

Tuesday’s conditions may remind you of real summer. Showers and storms are likely, amidst muggy high temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s. As it appears now, we may only have a 40-50% chance of a cooling shower or storm. Seek the shade and/or sunscreen! Confidence: Low-Medium
