Weather Channel gets grief for over the top hurricane headline, retreats

On Thursday, NOAA unveiled an Atlantic hurricane season outlook calling for normal to below average number of storms.  How did The Weather Channel headline this news at Weather.com? “NOAA Report: Hurricane Forecast May Shock You”

Several meteorologists on Twitter, recognizing this headline’s preposterous hyperbole, sharply pushed back.

The Weather Channel appeared to be listening to the Twitter chatter.  Within an hour or so, it amended the headline to: “NEW: Atlantic Hurricane Season Forecast”
