Cool air is a bit over the top. Mixing in light rain just rubs me the wrong way.

The last gasp of spring is a potent one now through the weekend thanks to our New England-sourced back door cold front. Today is just raw and wet. Showers today are more a nuisance than much good at any pollen disposal. Our luck is good though with clear sailing for the weekend; or gardening or hiking/biking or whatever your pleasure. Meteorological summer gets underway next week and an upturn in temps and humidity looks to be right on cue.

Today (Thursday): The day starts cloudy and stays that way. There may be patches of light rain or drizzle in the morning but most rain showers are likely (80% chance) to show up in the afternoon. With the overcast, highs are hard pressed to do better than mid-60s; some areas, particularly to the north and east, may struggle to reach the low 60s. Winds out of the east at 10 mph keep it relatively brisk. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Most of the rain tapers off by late evening (60% chance) but skies are likely to stay overcast all night. Breezes are minimal making lows in the mid-to-upper 50s tolerable. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Friday): Skies hang on to the clouds pretty tenaciously in the morning but by afternoon the claws retract and breaks become increasingly frequent making an observable sunset likely. Breezes are minimal and highs recover into the mid-to-upper 70s. An early exit from work looks like a rewarding experience.  Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Stars return to the evening sky for a change. Evening readings mainly in the lower 70s, winds are calm and humidity low so no excuses for sitting indoors. Overnight lows slip to the mid-to-upper 50s. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Saturday makes a nice day label an understatement! Sunny skies, low humidity, light winds and highs in the mid-to-upper 70s cannot be beat. Take a look at the crescent moon in the evening and notice it perched atop a bright star, sorry I mean planet, Jupiter. The night is clear and calm with lows in the mid-to-upper 50s. Confidence: High

Sunday does not vary from Saturday’s script much with just a few pop up clouds in the afternoon and highs mainly mid-70s to 80. Not a bad way to start off a new month. A clear comfortable evening is on tap once again and overnight lows range from mid-50 suburbs to near 60 downtown. Confidence: High

By Monday, humidity is likely to start creeping up and so do the temperatures with highs in the low-to-mid 80s. Sunshine should dominate but clouds may start to increase by afternoon to take the edge off the new found summer weather. Confidence: Medium
