FORECAST IN DETAIL

Happy Father’s Day to all the proud Poppas out there!  In your honor, we’re staying high and dry to close out yet another spectacular weekend!  Take my advice and get outside since this weekend weather luck can’t last forever. It definitely doesn’t carry over into the work week, which brings summer back with authority as highs head for the low 90s tomorrow and mid-90s for our midweek, with high humidity and an increasing chance of thunderstorms.

nice day

Today (Father’s Day): It’s another fine day as high pressure remains in control of the mid-Atlantic.  Skies stay mostly sunny, with perhaps just a few midday clouds passing overhead.  Temperatures jump a bit as highs reach the low-to-mid 80s, but the humidity continues on the lower side with light winds out of the northwest at 5-10 mph.  If Dad likes to enjoy his time outside, you don’t get much better than today. Confidence: High

Tonight: Winds begin to come from the south right around sunset, which gradually increases the humidity through the night. It’s still borderline comfortable enough to keep the windows open as temperatures dip toward lows near 60 to the mid-60s. A few passing clouds early may become more numerous toward morning. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Monday): June is back! High pressure anchored off the Southeast coast supplies light winds from the south, which continue to crank up the heat and humidity. Skies are mostly sunny through the morning, with building afternoon clouds as highs top out in the low 90s for most. Dew points well into the 60s turn on the swelter as well.  A few pop-up showers and thunderstorms are possible late in the afternoon, around a 20-30% chance in the metro area, with higher chances west toward the mountains. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: It’s a still and soupy night, with a lingering 20-30% chance for a passing shower or thunderstorm.  Skies are mostly cloudy, and with the winds trending toward calm and lots of low-level moisture, some fog could form in some locations as well. Lows drop only to the upper 60s to mid-70s (suburbs to city). Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Summer sweat stays locked in Tuesday and Wednesday with a good amount of sun and even hotter highs aiming for the mid-90s both days, which means the heat index may top out near 100. Both days feature a 40% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly late afternoon into evening, but perhaps a few overnight into early morning as well. Tuesday night and Wednesday night do little to provide relief, with warm lows in the low-to-mid 70s. Confidence: Medium
