FORECAST IN DETAIL

Temperature Map

Temperatures: Latest D.C. area temperature map. See interactive map on our Weather Wall.

June is going out on a high note thanks to a drop in humidity through the weekend. While highs might still near 90 degrees the next couple of days, it should be about as tolerable as such a reading can be. A stray thunderstorm or two can not be ruled out this weekend but odds are they stay parked to our south and west. Throw in highs back in the low-to-mid 80s and it is time for fun in the sun.

Today (Thursday): Showers should be dissipated by daybreak and clouds part quickly for a day with sunshine in the majority. Plenty of pop up clouds still grace the afternoon skies but primarily as decoration, not precipitation. The humidity is on the decline thanks to steady breezes out of the northwest. Highs climb vigorously under the high sun angle and top out in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Confidence: High

Tonight: The stars are unchallenged as the new moon is upon us. Lower humidity should make gazing better as well. Breezes out of the north calm later at night. Lows remain mild with mid-60s suburbs to near 70 downtown. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Friday): Drier air helps keep the cloud count down today with a mainly sun-filled day. The breezes are very light making highs mainly in the upper 80s a brow-mopper if you are exerting yourself at all. For those headed off to the beaches for a holiday week, weather cooperates even if traffic loads do not.  Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: The evening glow is going to be as late as it gets with the latest sunset of the year at 8:38 p.m. in downtown DC. Readings in the upper 70s to lower 80s should feel fine as humidity levels remain low. Overnight lows drop to the upper 60s. Confidence: High

A LOOK AHEAD

Saturday has the highest potential of garnering a nice day moniker with partly sunny skies and moderate humidity. Highs are the real winner, mainly in the lower 80s. There is a less than a 20% chance of a thunderstorm with higher chances to the south and southwest. The evening is equally tranquil and with readings in the 70s a must for an evening stroll. Overnight lows drop to the mid-to-upper 60s. Confidence: Medium-High

Sunday is another winner despite just a hair more humidity and a tad bit more heat. The chance of a thunderstorm is still no better than 20% as our gentle breezes from the northeast help to keep the best zone for popping thunderstorms to our southwest. Highs reach the mid-80s. Another beauty of an evening with overnight lows in the upper 60s but around 70 downtown. Confidence: Medium

Monday rounds out the month of June with seasonable weather to the max. Humidity becomes moderate under partly sunny skies and thunderstorm chances increase to 30% in the afternoon.  Highs top out in the upper 80s with a few spots likely to make 90. Confidence: Medium
