After three days of pure weather bliss – coinciding with a holiday weekend no less- it’s back to the hated heat and humidity. Temperatures over the next three days should all pass 90 as humidity ramps up. A cold front rushes to the rescue late Wednesday but not before a round of storms. Thursday, Friday, and possibly Saturday look superb. Saturday night into Sunday a disturbance zipping by may disrupt the late week weather rally.

Today (Monday): Southwesterly winds (10-15 mph) and plentiful sunshine turn on the heat.  Highs head for the low 90s, possibly mid-90s in a few spots.  Humidity levels are moderate by early July standards (dew points in the low-to-mid 60s) but noticeably higher than the weekend.  Confidence: High

Tonight: It’s more or less you’re average D.C. July evening.  With a soft breeze from the southwest, lows range from the upper 60s in our cooler suburbs to the mid-70s downtown. Humidity levels sneak up closer to the high range (dew points into the upper 60s late at night).  Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): A few more clouds compared to Monday and a bit more humid.  Highs once in the again rise into the low-to-mid 90s.  The extra humidity makes it feel more like the mid-to-high 90s. By late afternoon, there may be some thunderstorms developing out towards the mountains to our and west northwest.  Winds are from the southwest around 10-15 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: There’s a 20-30 percent chance of evening showers and storms, with the higher chances in our west and northwest suburbs.  Otherwise, it’s partly cloudy and muggy, with lows 69-76 (suburbs-city). Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Wednesday’s hot and humid with a good chance of showers and storms in the afternoon and evening, some of which could be strong.  Highs range from 90-95, but it will feel hotter than that.  Storms should gradually diminish after dark Wednesday night, with lows in the 60s to low 70s (downtown). Confidence: Medium-High

Thursday and Friday probably bring this week’s best weather.  There’s an outside chance Wednesday’s front hangs far enough back Thursday to retain some humidity and storm chances (mainly in our southern and eastern areas), but I’m leaning towards emerging sunshine,  a drop in humidity and highs in the mid-80s or so.  Following a very pleasant Thursday night with lows in the 60s, Friday also looks terrific, with sunshine, low-moderate humidity, and highs in the mid-80s once more. Confidence: Medium-High

The humidity rises some on Saturday, but I think the balance of the day – overall – looks promising.  Highs are probably in the neighborhood of the mid-to-upper 80s, with partly sunny skies. Confidence: Medium

The forecast turns trickier Saturday night and Sunday as a disturbance may well jet through region, with a period of showers and storms.  It’s too far ahead to pin down the timing, but I’d say there’s roughly a 40% chance of rain both overnight Saturday and during the day Sunday.  Lows are probably in the 60s to low 70s, with highs in the mid-80s. Confidence: Low-Medium
