Express Forecast

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny, still low humidity. Highs: Low-to-mid 80s.

FORECAST IN DETAIL

Today and tomorrow are about as good as it gets for July in and around D.C. The key factor is the low humidity, which combined with comfortable highs in the low-to-mid 80s makes for a nice break from the usual midsummer mugginess. We’ll turn warmer and gradually more humid Friday and into the weekend, when we may also see the return of showers and thunderstorms, or at least the potential for some. Good news is no major heat wave on the horizon, at least not in the next week or so.

nice day

Today (Wednesday): Skies clear from west to east during the early-to-mid morning, giving way to mostly sunny skies thereafter and an overall beautiful day. Highs top out in the low-to-mid 80s with low humidity, as winds breeze in from the northwest near 10-15 mph. Confidence: High

Tonight: Nice evening ahead with that low humidity and temperatures dropping into the 70s. Ultimately overnight lows dip to the upper 50s to mid-60s under mostly clear skies. Confidence: High

nice day

Tomorrow (Thursday): This looks like the pick of the week, perhaps even a touch nicer than today. We’ll see mostly sunny skies and highs heading back to the low-to-mid 80s, with continued low humidity. The breeze is a light and refreshing one at 5-10 mph, from the northwest in the morning and the west in the afternoon. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: It’s a another very nice evening, the most comfortable we’re likely to see for a while. Overnight lows ranging through the 60s aren’t unusually cool, but they are a pleasure without the usual humidity. Confidence: High

A LOOK AHEAD

The humidity creeps higher on Friday, but it’s still on the low side for July. Add in mostly sunny skies and light winds, and we’ve got another nice day in store, albeit a bit warmer. Highs head for the mid-to-upper 80s, with a slight chance of an afternoon or evening thunderstorm, followed by Friday night lows in the mid-to-upper 60s. Confidence: Medium-High

The weekend pattern favors more in the way of clouds and potentially some scattered showers and thunderstorms. But there’s also some chance that much of the shower activity tries to stay west of the area. In other words, stay tuned. Humidity is back to the moderate range with highs both days in the 80s under partly cloudy skies. Saturday night lows settle in the mid-60s to near 70. Confidence: Low-Medium
