FORECAST IN DETAIL

Do you have all the water out of your ears from yesterday? What a difference a day makes. After drenching rains and record rainfall in parts of the area, we are headed off to a much better one today. While clouds could linger into the early afternoon, at least it won’t be pouring. Once the cold front clears the coast expect drier air, warming temperatures, and clearing skies that should last into the weekend as high pressure anchors overhead.

nice dayToday (Wednesday): The good news is we have only a very slight chance of showers today, reserved for the higher western spots and exclusively to the morning hours. Don’t be surprised by any lingering morning clouds before the cold front exits offshore. The good news is once the majority of clouds do move out, expect a breezy day with northwest winds 10-15mph with highs in the low to mid-80s; how warm it gets will depend on how quickly the clouds move out! Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Skies continue clearing into the overnight hours, perhaps allowing for the chance to catch some of the Perseid meteor shower? The breeze also relaxes after dark and especially pre-dawn. Temperatures cool into the mid-50s for the western ‘burbs, and mid-60s closer to downtown and the Chesapeake Bay. Confidence: Medium-High

nice dayTomorrow (Thursday): If I was writing the forecast for tomorrow, I would hedge close to a 10! With minimal clouds, low humidity, and afternoon temperatures in the low 80s what’s not to love? Should be a nice day to ride the bike to work or eat lunch outside. Don’t mind the breezy westerly winds too much; that’s just the high pressure settling in overhead. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: A slight increase in clouds and less wind will allow for temperatures to cool a few ticks lower than tonight, but not by much. Low-to-mid 50s at the higher spots, low 60s for the urban areas near the District. Lovely conditions for your Friday eve! Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

High pressure is firmly in place by Friday. Mostly sunny skies, light and variable winds, and temperatures in the lower 80s provide a great introduction to the weekend. Have outdoor plans for Friday night? I sure hope so! Clear skies with temperatures in the upper 50s for camping in the Potomac Highlands, mid-to-upper 60s for a rooftop dinner downtown, and near 70 for a night out along the Bay…a nice night all around! Confidence: Medium

Saturday looks similar to Friday, with perhaps just a few more clouds. High pressure will still the dominating weather feature, so expect another dry day for outdoor activities. Saturday night might feature an increase in clouds with the approach of the next weather system that could bring a slight chance for spotty showers to the area on Sunday. We do have a bit of a warming trend getting underway, with highs on Saturday in the mid-80s and highs on Sunday perhaps up around 90. Confidence: Medium
