FORECAST IN DETAIL

It’s been a summer without much heat and with rather tame humidity. As the Labor Day weekend fast approaches, however, summer tries to hit its stride with highs near 90 today, and a fairly warm and humid weekend with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. If you’re not a fan of the summery stuff, we’ve got you covered too, with a pair of not-so-hot and not-so-humid days tomorrow and Friday.

Today (Wednesday): Well don’t look now, but it’s starting to feel more like summer out there. The humidity is more noticeable today, though still barely reaching the moderate range, and highs head for near 90 (not-so-familiar territory around here this summer). So it should feel quite warm under partly to mostly sunny skies, with light winds from the west-southwest near 5-10 mph. Confidence: High

Tonight: A cold front comes through, shifting our winds to come from the north-northwest later this evening into the overnight. Not much moisture around for the front to work with, be we do see a 30% chance of an evening shower or thunderstorm. Otherwise, we’re partly cloudy with overnight lows dropping back to the mid-60s to near 70 (suburbs to city). Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Thursday): So much for the hotter and somewhat muggier stuff. Tomorrow we revert right back to the low humidity and temperatures right around average, with highs in the mid-80s. Skies are mostly sunny and winds are light, but with a refreshing feel from the northwest. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Building high pressure keeps our skies mostly clear and winds light to calm. The mugginess is still missing in action, which makes for a lovely evening, followed by overnight lows that range from near 60 to the mid-60s. Confidence: High

A LOOK AHEAD

High pressure should hang out close enough on Friday to keep us mostly to partly sunny and rain-free. Both the humidity and temperatures remain in check as well, with highs likely in the mid-80s again. Flow from the south or southeast starts to increase the humidity Friday night, which sees warmer lows in the mid-60s to near 70. Confidence: Medium-High

The holiday weekend shapes up as warm, humid, and overall more summery than most of our summer has been. Highs aim for the upper 80s to low 90s all three days with a mix of sun and clouds. Shower and thunderstorm chances increase from 20% on Saturday, to 30% on Sunday, to 40% on Monday. Saturday night and Sunday night lows should be mainly in the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Low-Medium
