Capitals sign Mike Knuble to a one-year contract extension (Updated)

The Capitals announced this morning that they’ve signed veteran right wing Mike Knuble to a one-year contract extension worth $2 million for the 2011-12 season.

It’s a bit of a pay cut for Knuble, 38, who is currently playing out the final season of a two-year deal that paid him $2.8 million per year.

Knuble has recorded 40 points (24 goals) in 79 games with the Capitals this season and has been one of the team’s best players in the past few weeks. If you missed it last week, check out Tarik El-Bashir’s latest On Hockey column where he discussed Knuble’s recent surge.
