Update from the Capitals’ optional practice

There is light attendance at the Capitals’ optional skate Monday morning, prior to the team’s flight to Tampa Bay this afternoon.

Of the players on the ice, six appeared in the 3-2 overtime Game 2 loss Sunday night — Michal Neuvirth, Karl Alzner, Jason Chimera, Matt Bradley, Marco Sturm and John Erskine.

Others taking part in the light workout are Semyon Varlamov, Matt Hendricks, Dennis Wideman (leg hematoma), Tom Poti (groin), Braden Holtby, Jay Beagle, D.J. King, Tyler Sloan, Sean Collins, Patrick McNeill and Steve Pinizzotto.

--There was a very businesslike attitude from the players this morning as they know they put themselves in a tough situation down two games to none in this series as it heads back to Tampa Bay. More on that to come.

--For what it’s worth, Coach Bruce Boudreau came into the dressing room after the workout and called Varlamov back to an area that’s off limits to the media. It’s out of the ordinary and may not mean anything but is hard to ignore.
