Afternoon links: Man charged in banana-peel throwing incident involving Wayne Simmonds

Tarik is working on a story that will be up later today and Katie is en route to Nashville for tonight’s game, so to pass the time, here’s a quick roundup of what’s going on around the web in case you missed it:

— A 26-year-old London, Ontario, man has been arrested in connection with a racially-charged incident in which a banana peel was thrown at the Flyers’ Wayne Simmonds during a preseason game last week. (Early Lead)

— Simmonds, though, will avoid punishment for his alleged homophobic slur toward New York Rangers winger Sean Avery because the NHL was "unable to substantiate with the necessary degree of certainty what was said and by whom.” (ESPN)

— Alex Ovechkin talks about trades, Olympics and getting married. (Alex Ovetjkin)

Japers’ Rink wraps up its “Behind the Hockey Diaries”series.

— Joel Ward talks about making his return to Nashville tonight. (Examiner)
