Afternoon roundup: Big win, praise for Theodore, 'Mr. Nasty'

Update from Tarik, who's working on tomorrow's story: Mike Green was not at practice this morning, but Coach Bruce Boudreau characterized the absence as a "maintenance day" and said the defenseman will play tomorrow against Pittsburgh. Goalie Semyon Varlamov did not practice for the third straight day.

Apologies for the link lateness, but here's a morning roundup, afternoon-style:

*Jose Theodore is superb (44 saves), Nicklas Backstrom and David Steckel score 46 seconds apart, Caps edge the Red Wings, 3-2. ( Photos )

*Theodore gets a standing ovation.

*Postgame video: Ted Leonsis hugs Theodore, Matt Bradley talks about the victory.

*It's the Mike Wise and Tarik El-Bashir Show.

*Jeff Schultz, AKA "Mr. Nasty," is a "whole lot of nasty," says Matt Bradley.

*Mike Wise says Washington needs to add a nasty, veteran defenseman (in addition to "Mr. Nasty") in order to have the best shot at capturing the Cup. Your move, George McPhee.

*Game highlights:

*Detroit played like the powerhouse it is, but Washington managed to win anyway. ( DC Examiner )

*Red Wings dominated, but NHL's top-scoring team ultimately prevailed. ( Freep )
