Alex Ovechkin took the ice for practice at KCI in a gold jersey, which typically signifies no contact. He is taking part in most of the drills, sometimes mirroring the first line. I'll have an update on his status once the players are off the ice.
Some other quick observations:
--Mathieu Perreault is not on the ice with the rest of the team and he just walked in to the Capitals' dressing room area with his nose bandaged and stuffed with gauze again. Matt Hendricks is also not skating but he worked out with the Capitals' strength and conditioning coach Mark Nemish -- as did Matt Bradley (broken finger) -- prior to the scheduled practice at 10:30 a.m.
All other forwards, save Boyd Gordon (foot infection), are skating.
--All eight defensemen, including Tom Poti who recently missed time with a concussion and Tyler Sloan are taking part in practice.
