Alexander Semin skates, but status vs. Panthers unclear

Alexander Semin, who missed Saturday’s game against Ottawa with what a source described as a short-term right shoulder injury, returned to the ice Monday morning at BankAtlantic Center.

But it’s unclear whether he’ll play tonight against the Panthers.

“He’s ready to go,” Coach Dale Hunter said. “So we’re going to make a game-time decision who’s going to sit out.”

When Semin came off the ice, I asked him how his shoulder felt during the skate.

“Good,” he said. When I asked if that meant he’ll be suiting up, he solemnly shook his head as if to indicate, “no,” as he fidgeted with his helmet and stared straight ahead.

Semin is off a disappointing start this season. The former 40-goal scorer has five goals and five assists, putting him on pace for 18 goals, which would be his lowest output since his rookie season.

The 27-year-old was scratched for a game last month by former Coach Bruce Boudreau for taking too many penalties.
