Boudreau's Superstitions
If you missed Amy Orndorff's story in this morning's Sunday Source, check it out, there's some funny stuff you might not know about Coach Bruce Boudreau.
From the article (it features the superstitions of other local sports figures, too):
For Boudreau, a room at Verizon Center where the team holds news conferences has been taboo ever since he went in there before a game that the team lost.
"About four games later . . . we needed [the room] again, and I said, 'I don't like it.' And they said, 'Oh, it will be okay,' and we lost again," Boudreau says.
But the coach's superstitions aren't limited to Verizon Center. If he happens to talk to someone on the phone before a win, he calls that person again before the next game. During a seven-game winning streak, he made a point to ask center Viktor Kozlov how he was doing before each game -- you know, since it worked the first four times he did it.
Boudreau's wardrobe also plays a part: During one streak, he wore the same suit for three straight games.
Finally, he changed. "I sat there and said, 'Okay, I have used all the luck out of it,' " he says. He told himself: "Don't be so stupid. Put on some clean clothes."
