Some quick updates from the Capitals' outdoor practice this afternoon at Chevy Chase Club. Even though it was 46 degrees outside and very sunny on the Chevy Chase rink, unlike what the forecasts are calling for in Pittsburgh on New Year's day, the Capitals enjoyed the opportunity to run through a regular hour long practice outside.
Coach Bruce Boudreau said not to expect any fashion statements from him for the Winter Classic: "Nothing I put on is going to make me look any better." But he added that some Washington players will be back in the mix for lineup consideration on Saturday.
--Marcus Johansson (undisclosed injury) skated with his teammates for the first time this week and he along with Mathieu Perreault (broken nose) are ready to play, Boudreau said.
"I think they're both ready to play," Boudreau said. "We wouldn't have sent [Andrew] Gordon and [Keith] Aucoin down if we didn't think they were ready."
--Boudreau also said that defenseman Tom Poti (head injury) is ready to go as well.
--All of the Capitals defensemen were on the ice. Lines from the outdoor workout were as follows:
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Knuble
Laich-Perreault-Semin
Chimera-Johansson-Fehr
Hendricks-Steckel-Beagle-King
Hannan-Green
Alzner-Carlson
Erskine-Schultz
Poti-Sloan
More to come in a bit on the Capitals' test run practicing outside.
