Capitals recall Joel Rechlicz and Cody Eakin from Hershey

Washington signed AHL tough-guy Joel Rechlicz to a one-year NHL contract and recalled him, along with forward Cody Eakin, this morning. Both players will participate in the Capitals’ 2 p.m. practice at KCI.

While Eakin has split time this season between Washington and the AHL’s Hershey Bears, this marks Rechlicz’s first call up to the Capitals.

Listed at 6 foot 4 and 220 pounds, Rechlicz has one goal, one assist and an AHL-leading 184 penalty minutes in 27 games with the Bears this season. He played in Hershey during the 2010-11 season as well, recording one goal and 132 penalty minutes in 28 appearances.

Rechlicz, 24, played 23 NHL games for the New York Islanders between the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. He will wear No. 54 for the Capitals.
