Capitals recall Sean Collins

The Capitals recalled defenseman Sean Collins and he’s expected to travel with the team on its trip to western Canada, which they leave for Tuesday.

Collins’ recall is likely one for precautionary reasons. Mike Green twisted his right ankle against Detroit and based on comments made by his agent, Craig Oster, it seems likely that the two-time Norris Trophy finalist will play in Edmonton. That is also dependent upon how he fares over the next few days, though.

Meanwhile, John Erskine, who is recovering from offseason surgery on his left shoulder, still is not cleared for contact and Coach Bruce Boudreau said Monday he was unsure if he would make the trip with the team.

Given how far away from home, and the AHL’s Hershey Bears, the Capitals will be it is in the team’s best interest to make sure they have at least seven defensemen on the trip and ready to suit up against the Oilers and Canucks.
